Week 1
What You Will Learn
  • What is Creative writing?
  • Who is a writer and how do I become a full-time one?
  • Best opening lines in books (examples), getting your hook right.
  • Case Study: Harry Potter, Disney movies and why they’re successful.
  • My writing process and writer’s block.
  • Elements of a story: setting, character, theme, plot, mood, conflict and all the basics.
  • Case Study: understanding the pixar storyboard.
  • Questions you must ask your characters while creating them.
  • Invite a writer/storyteller in this episode and talk about the don’ts of writing fiction, like cliches, plot holes, flat characters etc.
Week 2
What You Will Learn
  • Introduction to poetry.
  • Thinking out of the box.
  • Surprise and misdirection.
  • Honesty, relatability, emotions and examples of poems that moved the world.
  • Metaphors in music you never noticed.
  • Similes and metaphors in day-to-day life vs similes and metaphors in poetry.
  • Other figures of speech and examples: Personification, Hyperbole, Understatement etc.
  • Replacing words, changing point of view, tense, cutting off unnecessary lines, line breaks.
  • Case study: A comparison between my unedited piece and edited piece.
Week 3
What You Will Learn
  • Invite a poet/editor to talk about narrative techniques, voice exercises and discovering your own unique and authentic style.
  • I’m done with my book. How do I submit?
  • Types of publishers, agents, waiting periods, rejection letters, and knowing when you’re ready to submit.
  • Case Study: My query letter to Penguin Random House India and how it landed me the deal.
  • Case Study: Other successful query letters.
Week 4
What You Will Learn
  • The importance of pauses and stress: try saying ‘I don’t know if I like this’ by pausing and stressing at different words.
  • Exercise 1 – Using the Pixar storyboard, write a story using an incident that happened in your life and post that on any medium you like.
  • Exercise 2 – Option 1 – Explore different ways of how you would like to edit your pieces and find your process OR Option 2 – Write 20 similes, 20 metaphors and write a poem where you use at least 5 of each. Send it to 5 friends for feedback. Edit based on the feedback given by them using your preferred editing technique.
  • Exercise 3 – Go through the last 100 text messages you’ve sent. Using only words you’ve used in those messages, write a poem.
  • Exercise 4 – Record a video of you performing a poem, share it with 5 friends for feedback. Re-record if needed and upload on your preferred social platform.

Is this a completely live program?

No. This is a hybrid of on-demand content and live sessions. Every week you will get access to on-demand content. And you can get all your doubts and queries answered in the QnA sessions.

Do I have lifetime access to the content?

You will have access to the content for 1 year.

I have a jam-packed schedule and I am not sure if I can make it, what do you suggest?

You will have access to the on-demand content to watch whenever you want. You will only need to get into the live sessions but even if you can’t make it, we provide all the recordings. So, mostly we expect you to put in 3-4 hours a week to complete the program successfully.

Would there be a certificate of completion?

Yes, you will receive a certificate of completion after you complete the entire program and all the projects.
